Life can be full of stressful situations, and this is a fact that people who live and work in urban areas are very familiar with. This may be why New York yoga classes are so popular, since countless residents of the bustling metropolis rely on deep breathing exercises, gentle poses and rejuvenating stretches to help them achieve calm.

Because of the immense popularity of engaging in yoga for stress relief, instructors and enthusiasts alike will be gathering in late August for the Being Yoga Conference Retreat. The event will take place at the end of August in Rhinebeck, New York, and will offer more than 50 sessions for people of all experience levels.

Some of the nation's top yoga teachers will be present to present a wide range of yoga styles and topics to attendees.

"We believe yoga holds tremendous potential for strengthening both individuals and the health and well-being of society," said Carla Goldstein, one of the experts who will be running the conference. "Through conscious and deliberate efforts – from the foods we serve, to the teachers we choose, to the sustainability initiatives on campus – we create an environment that supports a deep immersion into yoga."

The event will begin on August 26 with a program known as Yoga Stories, in which instructors will share personal accounts of how the holistic mind-body regimen has enabled them to overcome their struggles and pursue their fullest potential as human beings.

Elementary school students get an opportunity to try yoga

Dahn Yoga breathing techniques have enabled people of all ages and backgrounds to reconnect the mind and the body in order to achieve their full potential.

According to the Garden City News, students at the Hemlock, Homestead and Locust Schools in New York will have the opportunity to engage in yoga. Instructor launches yoga studio for larger practitioners

There are many common misconceptions about yoga, including the belief that only individuals of a certain body type can perform the stretches and poses that the self healing regimen promotes. However, this is largely untrue, as the exercise can benefit anyone, and comprises deep breathing and gentle postures that suit beginners as well as experienced practitioners.

The New York Daily News reports that Michael Hayes, who recently opened a studio in Union Square, started teaching in order to encourage heavier individuals to try yoga despite their weight.

"Large women have been marginalized, and when they go to exercise classes, people have presumptions about them," said Linda Bacon, an author who published a book called Health at Every Size, quoted by the news source. "They don't feel like they are in a safe place."

Hayes launched his own studio to address these concerns. His clientele consists of people of larger build who wanted to engage in yoga but were too timid to try for fear of looking different from the other students. Hayes' classes make use of props, such as chairs and bolsters, to help people perform the poses.

"People in bigger bodies are recognizing that they have a right to better exercise conditions," Bacon told the news source.
