New Yorkers get ready to celebrate National Yoga Month with stress relief techniques

September is National Yoga Month and enthusiasts at many a New York yoga studio are celebrating by engaging in poses, stretches and other stress relief techniques of the program. In honor of the 30-day nationwide celebration of the holistic mind-body regimen, real estate company Stonehenge Partners is hosting an event in New York City known as the Stonehenge Yoga Month Series.

Those interested in engaging in meditation and breathing exercises are invited to join in the fun on September 11 at the Ritz Plaza Fireman's Memorial Park. The celebration will kick off with a free 90-minute yoga class, in which beginners are introduced to the gentle maneuvers of the program while veterans can reinforce their technique.

The event will also feature live music and a family-friendly yoga festival on September 24. Although yoga is traditionally thought of as an exercise for adults, many studies have proven that the physical activity is also beneficial to children. Youngsters can attend free classes with their parents and learn how to perform the relaxing poses, which may help strengthen their concentration for optimal academic performance.

The final event of the Stonehenge Yoga Month Series will take place in the comfort and luxury of 10 upscale apartments in Manhattan. On September 30, New Yorkers will gather in these opulent surroundings to quietly meditate, reflect and stretch away their cares.

"The health benefits of yoga are undeniable, and Stonehenge has included yoga as part of its Lifestyle repertoire for a long time," said Lesley Schultz, who serves as lifestyle coordinator for Stonehenge. "When we found out about Yoga Month, we were eager to enhance its footprint in New York, knowing that New Yorkers would respond positively toward this powerful cause."
