Yoga has helped enthusiasts of all ages, skill levels and backgrounds relax and manage their stress. The exercise system is unique in that it can be performed almost anywhere at any time by anyone. This limitless quality translates into improved mindfulness and better energy flow among those who engage in the regimen.

Recently, the Sioux City Journal announced that yoga instructor and humanitarian Rama Jyoti Vernon will hold a workshop later this month. Vernon, who started out as a housewife and mother, found it fulfilling to incorporate yoga philosophy into her international peacemaking efforts.

During the 1980s, she traveled back and forth between the U.S. and the USSR, where she founded the Center for International Dialogue. The facility was based on harmony and the joining together of people with different ideas to come up with solutions to political, economic and cultural conflicts. These ideas are fundamental to the practice of yoga, which encourages unity and selflessness.

Workshop attendees "will experience her signature approach of using the breath as a way to open the spine to enliven day-to-day activities," said Connie Reynolds, who owns the Yoga College of Sioux City, quoted by the news source.

In conjunction with soothing poses and stretches, breathing exercises can help individuals feel more connected to their fellow beings.
