Lincoln Park Zoo holds second season of outdoor yoga
There may be nothing more tranquil than sitting in a quiet park or enjoying the sunshine on a beach – except maybe practicing yoga in these locations. The mind-body regimen is already calming and soothing, with its deep breathing techniques, stretches and poses, but bringing it outside could add a whole new level of serenity.
Many people have achieved personal development by engaging in yoga. The exercise increases one's awareness of their own body, leading to enhanced emotional, mental and physical well-being.
Recently, the Chicago Tribune reported that the Lincoln Park Zoo will be hosting its second season of outdoor yoga.
"There's a growing need for people to get outdoors. [This program is] encouraging people to utilize outdoor environments in creative ways, even if they live in urban environments," said Jessica Monahan, who serves as director of public programs at the zoo, quoted by the news source.
She added that the event is appropriate for all ages, and that yoga enthusiasts can bring their children to perform animal-inspired poses, listen to storybook reading and explore nature.
