I first got “Meridian Exercises for Self Healing Books 1 and 2″ for my birthday the first year I began Dahn Yoga to help me specificaly with my chronic backpain, headaches, and digestive problems. It’s a great book that clearly demonstrates exercises specifically geared toward particular symptoms. They make great gifts for anyone suffering from diabetes, high-blood pressure, back pain or dozens of other ailments.

Importance of your Intestines
Did you know that about 70% of our bodies immune defense is contained in the intestines? Did you know that a majority of our body’s blood mass acummulates in the intestines? Did you know that there are more nerve endings in our intesintes than in our spinal column? Sounds like a good reason to trust your gut eh? But did you also know that we can hold upwards of 30 pounds of undigested food in our intestines, which becomes toxic over time. Those toxins absorb into the blood stream and effect evry system of the body. Our organs become stiff, we can feel bloated and gain weight as well as experience back pain, lack of energy, constipation, dry mouth and cold hands and feet. Healing your intestines is a main focus for beginners of Dahn Yoga.

Jung choong breathing number 2
One of the best parts of Dahn Yoga is the breathing exercises that we do each class. Since I’ve been coming for quite some time, I can really challenge myself and feel each posture deeply. But when I first joined that wasn’t exactly the case…
I used to totally hate posture number 2, which can be done as “Sleeping Tiger.” In this posture, you lie on your back, raise your legs, bending your knees 90 degrees and raise your arms to the sky, flexing your palms to the sky. You breathe in your abdomen and accumulate energy in your energy center.
Sounds easy enough, right? Well, when I first joined, i could barely hold Sleeping Tiger for 30 seconds. I was so frustrated! I was in my 20′s, fairly athletic, so what was the deal. I would get so tense and then try to force my body to hold the posture, muscles flexing, sweating, breathing heavy in the middle of class. It was so embarassing. One day, as I was trying to hold Sleeping Tiger at a special workshop, I just had enough. I broke down, crying and shaking. I totally let go. My instructor explained that breathing postures aren’t about muscular strength, but they are about energy circulation. So, I started to relax. I focused on my breathing and released my idea that this was torture and welcomed the challenge to increase my body’s physical health. And even though I was still shaking (which my instructor explained was a good sign that my body was releasing blockages) and sweating, I slowly became able to hold Sleeping Tiger for longer and longer periods. Then, when I went to Sedona for Healer School, I had a triumphant awakening. In the midst of all that energy and self-healing, I held Sleeping Tiger for one hour straight. It was so great! Of course my body felt amazing, balanced and strong. But my mind was the clearest it’s ever been.

Dahn Yoga and weight loss
I saw a video clip of Renee Payne’s testimonial at www.dahnyoga.com. Like many other Dahn Yoga practitioners, she shedded pounds naturally because she was able to deal with and heal herself physically and emotionally. This can be anyone’s testimonial.
“Dahn Yoga has benefited me a lot, emotionally. Physically, I can see a huge difference. I’ve lost 30 pounds since I’ve been coming here, which is a lot for not even trying to lose weight, I guess. Emotionally, it’s had a major impact on my life. It’s helped me a lot through some really really tough times. I’m handling situations a lot differently than I would have in the past”

Tea time
I’ve always loved tea-time at my Dahn Yoga center. It was so welcoming the first time I took class to be invited for tea. All the other styles of yoga I practiced never had anything like this. A chance to reflect upon the class, connect to other practioners, share personal experiences, ask questions openly, and receive principles from the Instructors. And I didn’t even mention the delicious tea!
